Bill was one of the most inspiring and invigorating members of the parkinson neurology community. I always looked forward to a meeting when he was present and spoke up and spooked the audience ... we could believe that free thinking , intelligence and knowledge can be embodied. I will sorely miss him . My condolences to Lisa and their families .

Bill had a large, impactful presence in our professional community. His sad departure leaves a large void that wont be completely filled. Lisa, lucky for you and your extended family that you had him in your lives for all those precious years.

Here's a poem that fits the occasion:

PERFECTION WASTED

And another regrettable thing about death
is the ceasing of your own brand of magic,
which took a whole life to develop and market --
the quips, the witticisms, the slant
adjusted to a few, those loved ones nearest
the lip of the stage, their soft faces blanched
in the footlight glow, their laughter close to tears,
their tears confused with their diamond earrings,
their warm pooled breath in and out with your heartbeat,
their response and your performance twinned.
The jokes over the phone. The memories
packed in the rapid-access file. The whole act.
Who will do it again? That's it: no one;
imitators and descendants aren't the same.

John Updike

Dear Lisa,

my thoughts are with you and your family this difficult moment. Bill has been a wonderful voice of sanity and wisdom in our field. He leaves behind a void that will be difficult to fill, but also a legacy that will continue to teach us; he has been the collective "conscience" of our professional community, and he will remain so in our minds.

Dear Lisa-
My deepest condolences on your loss. Bill was a great and good man. I could always count on Bill at meetings to say what I was thinking (but I didn't have to nerve to say them). I will miss his chutzpah. It's a rare quality these days, and we need more of it. Hold tight to your memories and celebrate a life well-lived.

To Lisa and the Weiner Family. The news I have just received, has impacted me tremendously. I was a Junior resident in Neurology, when Bill arrived from Chicago and because of his Leadership and teachings, I got interested in Movement Disorders, that although I did not complete a formal fellowship, it is the focus of my Practice over the last 27 years. I allways looked up to him as my Teacher and Mentor, and I know he is in a better Place, but here we will allways miss him. Please accept my sincere condolences. Rest in Peace, Bill Weiner. ,

Professor Weiner was our movement disorders expert at Jackson Memorial Hospital in 1984 when I was a resident. He was a man of integrity and served as my model Professor. He always defended the truth wherever it led. He refused to alter his opinions when monies began to flow to academia to promote one treatment over another. Over the years, I always valued and read his expert opinions. I am saddened by his passing. My deepest condolences go to his family.
