I concur with everything that has been written about Heidi. I also want you to know that everyone admired how you handled yourself during the time that she suffered with ALS. You've provided your sons and all that you came in contact with what a proper role model of a loving caregiver is supposed to be. You did everything in your power to make her remaining months the best that it could be. Feel proud! Sorry Nadine and I couldn't be with the family today. We had plans to fly up with Tami. However, the Flu had other plans for me. Heidi will always have a special place in our hearts

Dear Andy, Ricky, and Phil,

I was so sorry to hear of Heidi's death. Reading the article in the CCTimes, I thought how right it was, how her personality shone through. Over the years, since I had taught the boys in school, she would call me to keep me up to date on their accomplishments, when Andy was accepted to med school, when he graduated, where Ricky was = never bragging, just knowing that I would want to know. I am so glad she experienced the joy of her grandson, and am sorry for him that he has missed out on what would have been a spectacular grandmother. You were all blessed to have her while you did. My heart aches for you all.

Dear Phil:

On behalf of the Randallstown High School Class of 1976, we extend our profound sympathy on the passing of Heidi. As others say, there are no words that can bring any meaning or solace at this time. Our prayers are with you and we hope that over time, the pain of your loss will lessen. The two of you were obviously the longest lasting couple of our class dating back to elementary school and will always be one of our most enduring legacies. May G-d bless you and your family. Heidi Deitchman

Heidi Michelle Deitchman, 59, of Eldersburg MD passed away on November 29, 2017 after her short battle with ALS. On July 19, 2016 Heidi was diagnosed with ALS and the disease moved quickly. Heidi was born on April 14, 1958 in Baltimore City to the parents of the late Harry and Anita Kulp. Heidi is survived by her husband Philip of 36 years, son Dr. Andrew Deitchman and his wife Dr. Kristen Deitchman, son Richard Deitchman and her grandson William “Ike” Deitchman. Heidi is also survived by her sister, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Heidi grew up in Baltimore County going to Randallstown Elementary, Old Court Jr. High and Randallstown High. Heidi was very active as an officer of the student government and the girl scouts. After graduation Heidi attended Towson State University and received a Bachelor’s in Elementary and a Master’s in Early Childhood Education. Heidi and Phil met in the 3rd grade and went from 3rd grade through Towson together and after receiving her Bachelor’s degree Heidi married Phil on June 21, 1981. Heidi was a loving wife and mother. Heidi made sure that her sons grew up in a loving home where love and education were very important. Heidi made sure that each day was special and would do anything for her children.

Heidi taught 2nd and 5th grade for Baltimore City Public Schools. After the birth of her sons Heidi bought the Sara King Day Nursery. Heidi taught the kindergarten class, during her final teaching there Heidi had 5 children in her class. Three became doctors, one a chef and she lost contact with the 5th child. Heidi had a simple philosophy towards education. Heidi turned learning into a game. The children thought they were playing, but Heidi had a detail curriculum she developed. By the time the children went into first grade they were doing second grade work. Heidi returned to the public school system briefly as a long term substitute teacher however in January 2000, Heidi took a position with Maryland State Department of Education as a Child Care Licensing Specialist. Next to Heidi’s family, her second love were the children. Heidi spent the next 17 years protecting children in child care centers and homes. Heidi’s job was to inspect these facilities and make sure the children in her areas were in a safe and enriching environment. Heidi retired when her disease would not allow her to talk or walk safely. It took four doctors, her family and several falls that required trips to the emergency room to convince her to retire on February, 28 2017.

Over the years Heidi was the go to person if you needed anything. Heidi supported the schools and was the PTA president for Liberty High School. Heidi was very involved in scouting with our sons. Heidi started with Andy in Tiger Cubs and became a Den leader, Webelos Leader, Cubmaster and on the district level she was a Unit Commissioner and Popcorn Chair and at cub scout day camp was known as the glitter lady. Heidi was very involved in our synagogue. She spent her life serving and helping anyone that needed help. Heidi continued to raise money for ALS research up to the time of her death. Throughout Heidi’s life, Heidi did not sit on the sidelines and watch. Just as Heidi was fully involved in the PTA and scouts, Heidi was fully involved in this fight for life.

Services at SOL LEVINSON & BROS., INC., 8900 Reisterstown Road, at Mount Wilson Lane on Friday, December 1, at 1 pm. Interment Chevra Ahavas Chesed Cemetery - Randallstown.

Please omit flowers. Contributions in her memory may be sent to Muscular Dystrophy Association, Heidi's Happy Hikers, 8501 Lasalle Road, Suite 106, Towson, MD 21286.

In mourning at 2054 Stillwater Road, Sykesville, MD 21784.
