Glori and Shapiro Family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this sad time. We always looked forward to our Sunday morning calls talking about what went on during the previous week. Gary often would call me when the weather was not so nice in Baltimore just to ask me how warm it is in Florida. He actually used other language that I cannot mention. I will miss speaking with him.

Sad to hear such bad news about my cousin. Srory for your loss. Almost a year since we lost Aunt Ruthie. Gary and I shared the same first and middle names. Just a Kestenbaum sisters thing I guess. We spent many summers together at bungalow colonies and shared some great times and memories. He was a wonderful person and I will miss his laugh and gentle soul. RIP sweet cousin and say hello to Aunt Ruthie and all of the other wonderful Kestenbaum's who passed in 2017.

Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the Shapiro family.

Glori and family, Paulette and I were saddened by the news of Gary’s passing this morning. We first met professionally over 25 years ago, and became friends- His practical and logical application of the law and genuine interest in fairness were his trademark. He was a compassionate and progressive manager of people which helped get the best from them. Take solace that Gary left the world a better place, his legacy will live on, and he will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, the kids and the family.

I'm very sorry to hear this news. I had only worked with Gary for a relatively short time, but I really enjoyed our interactions - his warm and friendly manner, the depth of his knowledge and expertise and his practical and collegiate approach. I'll very much miss working with him.
Jan 9, 2018 07:56 PM
I had no doubt the family, friends and colleagues around Gary would have nothing but kind words towards him.
Gary was always so easy to talk to. Never ever have I felt like he didn’t have time for me or my work questions were too silly to be worth his time. Always pleasant, to the point and reassuring.
I will miss Gary. We all still had so much to learn from him.
My deepest thoughts with his family, who were always his priority.

Gary was a great guy personally as well as professionally. Thinking about how much I will miss him in our Business Environment not only as a creative, reliable and extremely skilled lawyer but as an Integrator of People at the Office in Baltimore as well as within our Group, acting as the role model, I can imagine how incredibly hard this loss will be for you as his Family. Gary was never shy of expressing his opinion even if it was not in-line with Mainstream, always applying common sense and being pragmatic rather than simply following rules and Guidelines. You could not think of a better in-house council advising management. He was also a fantastic negotiator on behalf of our Company, tough but fair, always aiming at reaching the best result for the Business. First and foremost he was a colleague who was literally liked by everyone even the ones to whose opinion he was opposed to and it was an enormous joy having him around. He has added fantastic value to our Company in Terms of culture and spirit next to his professionalism. My deep condolences to his wife and all his beloved. Rest in peace Gary, we will remember you!!!

I'm still in shock of hearing the sad news. Even though far away, you always felt that Gary was close by and easy to reach. He has been instrumental in many business dealings I've had in the US and he will leave a massive hole to fill. Above all he was the friendliest man on the planet. You could feel he was enjoying what he was doing and always had an open ear. Gary, I will miss you. I wish Glory and the family all the strength in the world.

Gary was truly loved around the globe. Everybody I speak to about Gary these days uses the same loving words: warm, sincerely interested, approachable, humor, knowledgeable, solution driven, spot on, making complex things easy, a good listener, caring…I feel privileged to have worked with him. And this is just his work…I cannot even start to imagine how much his family will miss him. He spoke about them with all his heart and you could tell he was a happy family man who felt blessed and enjoyed life… My heartfelt sympathies go out to his family and all his friends.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Gary when he started working for Atradius. Very soon I discovered what a wonderful man and lawyer Gary was. Very friendly, with a sparkle in his eye and not afraid to question what may have been the way until then, he gave advise. Pragmatic with lots of common sense and very aware of our commercial challenges, Gary guided us. No question was ever too much. If I would have needed a lawyer and good man beside me in my personal life, Gary would have been my choice. He will be missed and always remembered.
My deepest sympathy and condolences to the Shapiro family.

Jan 10, 2018 06:50 PM
I am so terribly saddened by Gary’s passing. The only regret I have in my dealings with Gary was that our paths did not cross earlier. I remember him telling me when I decided to join Atradius that it was the best decision I could have made, and that Atradius really is a family. That goes to the heart of what he was all about. Passion, honesty and a love for what he did. I learned very quickly that Gary was a man to be trusted, and whose advice was always spot on. When he raised a concern, I always listened. As good as Gary was as a businessman, he was an even greater friend and colleague. What an incredibly kind man. I will miss him dearly. My deepest sympathies to the Shapiro family.

So difficult to believe that my dear cousin Gary has passed. As children we shared some beautiful memories, fun and funny experiences and always lots of laughs. The love our Kestenbaum family shared has left each of our family members with a treasured legacy and an unbreakable bond. May he RIP and be reunited with the cherished family members we lost in 2017, his mother Ruth Shapiro, our Aunt Sylvia Kestenbaum and my mother, Diana Needle and with those we lost previously. I extend my deepest condolences to his family and pray that you find comfort in his memories.

Jan 11, 2018 08:02 AM
I was not able to work and know Gary for as long as many of the others here, but from the time I did I could see just what kind of man he was. He had a way of always putting things at ease, that even in crisis you could look over to him and he would have a plan, a back up plan, and an extra one just in case those two didn't pan out.
He had a passion for what he did and was always ready to help someone, lending his experience and advice to anyone who asked for it, something I would see and hear consistently about him, and something that will be sorely missed.
I can't fully grasp the feelings that his family are dealing with, because he was truly one of a kind and will be missed. Gary was good man, father, and grandfather and my deepest sympathy and condolences go to his wife and family.

I knew Gary for more than twenty years, and worked with him in his role of corporate attorney and master problem solver. He was a straight shooter, a practical man, funny, and tough; one of the bright lights of our industry. He never took anything personally, but he was crystal clear in his views and opinions, and always willing to say what was on his mind. Gary cannot be replaced, but we are all better for having known him and learned from him how to live and work with integrity. We will miss you, Gary!

Dear Gary's Family, please accept my deepest condolences on Gary's passing. His Aunt Anne Schiff would always share her pride in him and Ira ever since we were neighbours of her and Lou in 1965 in Mexico City. I stumbled upon his obituary as I was looking for information on how to contact him to find out what had happened to his Mom Ruthie, whom I love and whom I have been ringing up for the last so many months but to no avail. On reading his obituary I also discovered that Dear Ruthie had passed away as well. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy on both passings. I knew and loved Ruthie through Anne Schiff, who was my godmother in Mexico City, where my parents and I were like part of her and Lou's family. I would chat with Ruthie occasionally after Anne passed on ( she contacted us on Anne's passing ), first when she was in Florida and then a couple of times when she moved to Maryland, reminiscing about Mickey, Anne and Lou. I admired her greatly for her single minded dedication in taking care of Mickey and then of Anne. She was amazing. She was so proud of Gary and Ira and of their families and shared stories of her pride in them and their accomplishments. So sad to read that she is gone as well, to be with Mickey, Anne and Lou Schiff and other dear ones. My heart goes out to you all and my prayers are with you.
