What can I say about the loss of such a dear friend...Sandy and Les, Elana and Dodi were close neighbors and very good friends during our time in Baltimore. The memories of times spent together will be with me forever. Only to a trusted friend would you leave your two daughters while you are busy having your third daughter. We send our love, our prayers for comfort. We wish we could be there to share a hug. You are in our thoughts. Much love, Martha and Jack

Dear Vogel family, I am so shocked and saddened seeing this about your wife/mother. I think of her as being such a young, vibrant person and am so sad to see this. Any time over the years that I saw her, she always had such a big smile on her face. She seemed like such a happy person, such a warm, loving, proud mother and grandmother and so competent at what she did at Beth Tfiloh. We send you our deepest condolences and are so so sorry for your loss.

Dear Vogel Family,
I am so sorry and saddened to hear of Sandy's passing. She was such a wonderful lady. I came to know her when she was principal of the Judaica Academy where my son attended. I also have fond memories of going to New York with her when we were taking the Master Teacher program many years ago at the Hebrew University. She always had a smile on her face no matter how she felt. What she developed with the Mercaz program at Beth Tfiloh will never be forgotten and it was a pleasure working with her on the committee. My deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to your family. May her memory be a blessing.

To the bereaved family,
Sandy and I were colleagues at the then, Board of Jewish Education, she working with teens, I, with those who teach/care for very young children; Sandy always kept the interests and needs of teenagers as her top priority, always thinking and considering the needs, concerns, interests of these students and their families. The innovative developments she created at the BJE continued with her at Mercaz, as she developed programs to appeal to all.
A role model for Jewish people everywhere, for those who labor in Jewish education, her efforts and her accomplishments are a testimony to her life.
It was also a special privilege to be the childbirth teacher before the birth of Elana.
Her legacy continues with her children and grandchildren. May her memory be a blessing to all the people of Israel.

Baruch Dayan HaEmet. Sandy and I were colleagues at the BJE of years ago, working on teen initiatives and collaborating on many projects. She always presented a friendly and positive face to all she met, and fostered Jewish living, teaching and learning through her daily life and work throughout her adult life. What a deep loss to her family, friends, and the Jewish community! I first became close to Sandy on our Baltimore Hebrew College trip to Israel more than forty years ago and then our relationship deepened when our daughters became friends--and over all those years, Sandy was always there with her warm smile and compassion. Her passing will leave such a void but may you be comforted by the love of all those around you. May her memory be for a blessing.

Dodi and family,
I first met your mom when you were in my pre-school class many moons ago. We then reconnected when I began teaching at BT. I then had the pleasure of having Raffi in my Little Me
Class. Your mom would accompany him, and she was an active participant. She enjoyed every minute she spent with him. She was so proud of you and your family. My deepest sympathy to you and your family.

Sandy and I were classmates at Maimonides. I have lasting memories of her articulate, passionate but respectful debates with our social studies teacher, Mr. Gerry. Regardless of the subject, she could argue like an expert. I was awed by her steadfastness and wisdom.

B.D.E. Sandy was instrumental in helping me become a frum Jew. She often spent much time helping me choose Adult Learning courses, offering advice. And, I was never disappointed. (I now live in the Shomron.) Our Jewish family can ill afford to lose members like Sandy, and at such a young age. I am deeply saddened both for her family and the BT and Baltimore community.

Les, Elana and Dodi: I see Sandy so clearly in front of my eyes with her sweet smile, smart outfits, pleasant manner, razor-sharp intellect. Watching the funeral from Israel and listening to your words about her brought even more dimensions to her personality. I am blessed to have known her and learned from her. May the space that she left in this world and her legacy be a comfort to you in the future.
