Andy was a wonderful human being. He was kind, charitable, always charming. He was a Mensh! I fondly remember calling on him in business over many years and the many interesting conversations we had. I remember visiting his Succah which he proudly asked me to use, and I remember all the work he did for the State of Israel and so many charitable causes. The Klein Family is a treasure of Maryland and of Klal Yisrael and we lost an outstanding individual we will all miss!

Jayne & family,
It was an honor to to know Andy, both as a business customer and as his following me as president of the Maryland/Delaware Jewish National Fund. His generosity followed the same track as his late parents; giving back to the community and the strong support of the State of Israel. May
you remember him as your loving husband and father of your children.
He will be sorely missed.

I remember Andy in kindergarten, in elementary school--a great classmate and friend. I was so proud of him when he was in "The King and I" and "My Fair Lady" in high school. Later I remember him giving me a tour of UMCP when I was transferring. His generosity, good humor, and big smile followed him all through his life, and I miss him greatly. My heart goes out to Jayne, and all of his family at this time.

On behalf of the Breitbart family, we wish to extend our condolences. May you be comforted among the mourners of Israel. Mar 12, 2019 12:28 AM

It is always so hard, and exceedingly so, to locate a comforting thought or know what a consoling word would look like, when good people are taken from us before their time, ever so tragically.

Often one looks to the prophetic writings in want of explanation, and, particularly, to the Book of Isaiah, in an attempt to understand the enigmatic nature of the vast and grand divine plan, to offer up, explanatorily, of a needful scheme by the Almighty on High, to intervene on behalf of the righteous, to protect them, so as to spare them of the evil to come.

Rachel, your father once told me, years ago, when you were in college, that you were studying sports broadcasting, and I am reminded of a quote attributed to Vince Lombardi, who though long came before you, is still nevertheless remembered for giving many a broadcaster reason to boast.

He spoke of a time to stand and cheer for the doer, the achiever, the one who recognizes the challenge and does something about it. Now is such a time, as we remember your father, at his passing, and boast of him in this very same way.

Andy to me was a mentor, outspoken leader who fought and was determined to make things better. His skills were many and if you spent some time with him you truly saw the person he was. Certainly there were many a time you needed to slow him down, but, on average his early response to a situation was spot on. A hard working man with big picture vision . Rest in peace Andy .

Dear Jaynie and Family,
I worked closely with Andy and his mom many years ago when I worked at JNF. I was amazed at both of them at their commitment and love of Judaism and how they schlepped back and forth from Harford to Baltimore. They were both so passionate about what they did and gave so much of themselves. Andy was a terrific man with strong principles, a strong work ethic, a strong love of Israel and Judiasm and an even stronger love for his family; a real mensh. He will be missed by all who knew him. I’m so sorry for your loss. Hopefully the good memories that you have will help you through the difficult times ahead.

Andy was such a treasure on many levels. He was kind, generous and passionate in his love of his family and the community. But my very fond and happy memory of him is as the star and lead in our high school plays - "The King and I" and "My Fair Lady".

The teachers considered Andy a great talent and he barely had to audition for the leads in both plays! Literally hundreds of people enjoyed Andy dancing, enunciating his lines with impeccable skill and especially singing with his powerful voice. When "Shall We Dance?" in "The King and I" began, he would soar across the stage with grace, dignity and never(literally)stepping on anyone's toes! He was a vision on stage, and always received a standing ovation with the cast!

Andy also had the leadership skills to unite diverse people together, recognizing their talents and abilities - always with a smile and encouragement.

His loss has left an empty void in so many lives, but his legacy is also very powerful, and will be very enduring through time.

Jayne, Michael, Howard and the Klein family. I first met Andy as a leader of UM's TEP house in the 70's and was fortunate as a Yankee from NY to be inherited by him - and Michael - as a fraternity brother. As fate would have it, Howie later become my law school roommate and good friend, so the Klein family has been a part of my life in one sense or another for more than 40 years. Although the occasions on which I encountered Andy waned in the more recent past, I am so truly heartbroken by his untimely loss and will always remember him for his kindness, love of family, good nature, engaging smile and quiet leadership. My heartfelt condolences to the entire Klein family.

Andy did everything right in life- a great family man, terrific businessman, a philanthropist and man of deep faith. I always thought Andy set the standard for how all of us should try to live, and we are all better off for having known him. My heart goes out to you and the children, and Michael and Howard.

I was so impressed with Andy's strong love and pride for Jayne, his family and his entire community. He was never too busy. It seemed to me that he was especially proud of the little things he was able to share despite all his busyness such as his tutoring.

I am so so sorry for your loss - although I did not know Andrew, I recently met Sarah and have known Jayne to say hello to through the years. Sarah - I hear that you have your father's big heart - and I am sure your Mom's too. He was obviously an incredible man - how lucky you were to have had such a Dad. Praying that you all find peace and thinking about you during this very difficult time.

So sorry for your loss. When I was in 9th grade, I would ride school bus to their home & babyset for Ralph & Shirley. The boys were easy to watch. Well behaved & polite. Then when I was to catch the bus on Monday. Andy would give me a hug & say by see you Fiday ( not Friday). Im still crying . I hope you all have comfort from God & your memories. I do not know where to start as I am lost for words. My eyes twitched , my lips went numb and my heart raced a mile a minute. I received a text nobody wants to get. One of my bosses , friend , and owners of where I work passed away in a horrible crash in the County he lived in and loved. Mr Andy was a caring man as he followed in his mom and dads footsteps.

I don’t understand how things like this happen when people like Mr Andy help others on a daily basis. I am mad, sad, heart broken, and crying for the pain his family is going thru. The Klein’s family had been my family for 25 years and still is to this day. I will miss the smiles , conversations, his voice , and his friendship.

I am sorry that a man who gave so much to his community is gone in a blink of a eye. If there were more people like Mr Andy this world would be a better place. I am glad I was able to spend time and work with a man of his stature. I sometimes do not know how he did it in a 24 hour day, but he did with no complaints.

Until we meet again Mr Andy tell Mr Ralph and Mrs Shirley hello and we are still thinking and talking about them from the family stores that we are all proud to call home.................

Mr. Klein was a regular customer when I worked at the Waffle House years ago as a teenager. When my boyfriend (now husband) and I found out we were expecting he brought us a baby shower gift and he also rented us our first apartment. He let us pick out the carpet and kitchen floor and he even had a wall knocked down before we moved in so that our son would have a larger room. He was a great customer and great landlord and he went out of his way to make things easier on us as a young family. We are so sorry to hear of his passing and will keep his kind memories always in our hearts.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I have wonderful memories of Andy, and great appreciation of his generous nature. So many lives are better for having Andy as family, friend or community leader. He was the King ! What joy he experienced in that role. My husband Philip enjoyed being with Andy at JC and at College Park U of Md. There were great stories of dorm life - including watching weekly Thursday night streaking to the tune of The Lone Ranger. I hope in time the fact that so many people care, and your own special memories and stories, will bring smiles and ease some of the pain.

Today the world lost our dearest friend- our mentor, our moral conscience, our friend, our mentor, our leader and Jewish National Fund’s #1 fan and advocate- our dearest, our most beloved Andy Klein.

It is just so hard to believe that this tragedy took place- it is surreal- we are all crying out, “ How can this happen? How can this happen to such a mensch, to such a good person, someone whose soul was put here only to do good. As Andy’s beloved mother Shirley would tell me daily, “ Andy is an angel put here on this earth to take care of Israel and all the Jewish People.”

There are no words. Andy was the kindest, the most sincere, the most thoughtful, the most humble, a person of the highest integrity, and higher than that. Andy thrived on his JNF work, on being a leader with JNF, on tackling his position as National Treasurer with the highest regard. Andy only wanted to help the world become a better place. He loved his family- his dear wife Jayne, his children; Marshall, Sarah, and Rachel and daughter- in – law, Rachel. And, of course, most recently his incredible Sasha, his wonderful granddaughter.

Andy lived for Torah and Jewish Studies and singing and chanting and always doing what was right. Andy Klein did not want accolades or honors. Andy only wanted to do good. The world is a much stronger place because of Andy and his good deeds. His legacy will live on through his children and grandchildren- and through us continuing in his most noble footsteps.

We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences and love and support to the entire Klein family. They should only know how much the Jewish National Fund adored their husband, their father , their grandfather, their brother. Today we lost our angel.

There are no words……………..

With the deepest sense of loss and love for Andy Klein,

Howie and Michael - Words fail me as you endure the loss of a brother. I read with sadness the news of Andy's passing. Although I did not know him well, I remember fondly working with him (and Ralph and Shirley and the two of you) on the KMart deal. I did not know Andy at all. But I know his little brother Howard and sister in law Susan and my heart just aches for them right now. My prayers for you and your extended family and the community that lost such a great friend in Andy.

Jayne & Family,
Sorry I couldn't be there tonight as friends and family gathered to share their love for Andy. My mom, Linda Samuels, just called me in the happiest of moods. Even in his passing, Andy is helping others. My mom just lost my dad and because of Andy's outreach into the world she got to spend time "everyone". Personally Andy and I always talked about the same thing everytime we crossed paths. TERPS BASKETBALL!!! (They just played like cr--p and lost today. I know he is pis--ed.). Just last month my brother and I planned a trip to Michigan to see the TERPS. The game was sold out so we reached out to Andy to see if he could get us some seats to purchase. Of course he got us seats and refused to let us pay. The memory burned in my mind forever is because of Andy. In 1985 as a 17 yo I was eating, sleeping, and dreaming TERP basketball and my idol Len Bias. Andy found out about this. My dad said Andy got us seats to see a game. I was so excited. But the story gets better. COURT SIDE SEATS. Andy, thank you for all you have done to better the world and make my life better. I hope the TERPS play better for you. All my love to your family. Andy had a great run albeit much too short. Honored to have known him. Deep condolences.

Dear Klein family,

I am so sorry for your loss. I remember Andy fondly for his many contributions to our school, our Jewish community, and our county — and for giving me my first job and many encouraging words as I worked. May his memory be a blessing.
