I've been remembering Joel's bear hugs. And when he tried to teach me to dive into the pool. The summers I visited you guys... Lots of memories, lots of love... I'm so very sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you today.

Dear Rita, Philip, Debra, Louis, Joshua and Daniel, and Zippy,
I wish to express my most sincere condolences to your whole family, a family very dear to me my entire life. I have so many great memories...... Some very sad, the loss of parents and our wonderful Sandy and the loss of the newborn so many years ago.. But one of the happiest memories is of your wedding Rita and Joel over 55 years ago. Everyone was so happy to see such a loving young couple embarking on your life’s journey to found a wonderful family. Joel together with his Rita was a wonderful person and worker for his family, for his community and for strangers in need. We acknowledge the terrible illness Joel suffered in his last years but he received the most dedicated loving help from Rita and his loving son Phil. May God give you comfort to know that your love and dedication has you as well as Joel inscribed in the book of life. I am on an extended trip in Asia and could not attend the service which I would otherwise have come to honor Joel and the family. Love, Cousin Lester

From the "legend of the first and second dates", the beautiful lavender wedding, Philip and Deborah, and the years of finding you from Philadelphia to Maryland, Michael and I have treasured the amazing Joel. One look at Rita after the 2nd date - when her feet didn't touch the ground, and I knew she was beyond smitten. After getting to know Joel, I could see why! Carrot cake has become Michael and my favorite dessert and no visit to Maryland is complete without sitting and laughing with Joel and Rita.
He will not be forgotten all the way to California!!! Joyce-Ruth
