Uncle Billy used to take me to baseball games. I remember asking him how many times can you hit a foul ball before you are out. He told me that you can foul until Pesach and you wouldn't be out. One of the many memories of fun times. Jeff and I send our love to the Benjamins.

Rabbi David E. Herman- Shaarei Tfiloh Congregation
Nov 27, 2019 03:08 PM

Shaarei Tfiloh Congregation deeply mourns our long time member and devoted friend Billy Benjamin of blessed memory. Mr. Benjamin's affiliation with our synagogue spans well over 80 years. He was the youngest member of Rabbi Nathan Drazin's daf yomi ( Daily Talmudic class) and won numerous awards in recognition of his sharp mind, keen wit and devotion to Torah study and practice. Together with his Aishes Chayil , Miriam they raised a beautiful family of Bnei Torah and Yirai shamayim. The Benjamin's practiced true ahavas love for their fellow Jew. He worked for many years for the Associated and was involved in countless worthwhile Jewish organizations and causes. He was Zuin Gott and zui Leit. For G-d and for people. If only we had more people like him. May he be a Gutte Beiter for his devoted Miriam, the family and all of the Jewish people. May the family be comforted and consoled among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

Billy was an all-around great guy, a mensch in every way. He and I worked closely back in the 70s and 80s, when I was in Young Leadership at The Associated. After that, I would see him frequently at the JCC, and he always had a smile and a super-friendly greeting for me. The photo you posted captures his wonderful smile perfectly. We moved to the West Coast five years ago, so I can't be there, but I send my deepest sympathy to Miriam and the entire family.

Miriam & Family

Taking Billy to Rabbi Frand's Thursday night shiur was always the highlight of my week. We invariably discussed classical music. When he got in the car, I had WBJC on and he almost always knew the name of the piece and composer.
He did a spectacular job showing chesed and patience teaching my son the entire Sedrah for his Bar Mitzvah.
May you be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
