With deep sadness and sorrow I say good-by to my dearest first cousin Irene =IRKA as she was called by the Winograds. She was the one who told me about growing up in Lodz, before WW2 ; about our grandparents, uncles and aunts, and all the other family members-who later were murdered by the Nazis. Also about the ghetto time-when I myself was hidden, and she was the nurse who took care of me and the other children hidden during the Sperra.
We had a special Bond, that was kept strong during my yearly visits,
first in Baltimore, where I met Linda,Allen and Herb, and saw them growing up; and later in Pittsburgh for many good years, with all the other family members and many happy occasions.
Irene had a fantastic memory, and loved to recite for me in polish,
the stories and verses she had learned by heart, during her school-
time in Lodz.
Irene lived a long and happy life in the USA-surrounded by a loving family, and many friends (who nearly all preceded her in passing)
We will all keep the memory of our beloved IRENE alive forever.AMEN.

Linda, Dennis & Family: I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your beloved mother and grandmother. She held a special place in my heart. I always admired her dignity, grace and elegance - even while telling her life story of surviving the Holocaust. I admired her strength when she spoke of that horrific time and was so honored to have met her and worked with her during my years at the Holocaust Center. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren. May you all find peace at this sad time and may her memory forever be a blessing.
