I'll miss listening to Steve tell tales of cartooning, NY fandom, Corflu's past and his extensive book knowledge. The world is a darker place without your wonderful Mensh. May you be comforted among the mourners of Zion.

Steve had a very quiet wit, a sparkle in his eye, and an inspired creativity. He made fandom and the world a better place. May his work and cheerful spirit be remembered, and his family be comforted among the mourners of Zion.

Steve was unfailingly friendly & fun; we are all the poorer for his passing. May his loved ones be comforted with the mourners of Zion & Jerusalem. Baruch Dayan Ha'Emet

I have known Steve since the late 1970s in Baltimore. I used to hang out with him at his house in Waverly. A bit later, he married his love Elaine. Steve was a super comic and graphic novel artist, as well as a funny, always friendly, and extremely bright guy. Nina and I truly miss Steve and always will.

Charlie and I shared a special relationship with Steve and six others: we knew each other from science fiction fandom many decades ago and then, in the 80s, we formed a “brunch group” which met pretty regularly on a monthly basis for years. Steve: the Brunch Group will not be the same without you.

I am certainly going to miss this guy. Like, who else will cross the street and take care of my cats when I go on holiday? May his memory be a comfort and blessing to all that know him.

Steve always gave me a boost and made me like my own work better. He was fun to hang with, and I was always proud to think of him as a friend. He is sorely missed.

ps: I can't post this without telling the nice computer than I am not a robot. A fitting coda for Steve's fine sense of the absurd.

Dear Elaine: My deepest condolences. Steve was such a great guy! Sci-fi conventions, Halloween, New Years Eve, 4th of July, as well as watching scary movies and silly cartoons won't be nearly as much fun without him! I will always miss him.

Although we lived on opposite coasts and were face-to-face an insufficient number of times over the years, through the miracle of science fiction fandom we were good friends from late 1959 -- and carried on an extensive correspondence. He also provided me with lots of custom artwork over the years for my fanzine and was in every way a total mensch. My wife and I are missing him so much.
