“Not everyone has the unique opportunity to work alongside family members and help the community at the same time. I am honored to continue the work of my father, and the generations before him. The pride I have in my family's legacy is immeasurable.”

Ira Levinson is one of the fourth generation Levinsons and serves as Chairman and funeral director. Ira grew up in Pikesville and attended Pikesville High School, the University of Maryland, and Fine Mortuary College in Boston. In 1973, Ira joined Levinsons and over the past forty years, he, and the members of his family, have developed a level of personal service, professionalism and excellence that is second to none.

Ira is passionate about helping families during the most difficult time of their lives and making sure every detail of the service goes as planned. He is a strong believer in the old adage  "People may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel," exemplifying the care and support he extends not just to the families he serves, but to the community at large.

Ira’s father, Burton Levinson, and his uncle, Stanley Levinson, mentored him in the business in his early days. It is, therefore, no surprise that the idea of one generation teaching the next became one of Ira's core principles. Over the course of his career, Ira has mentored several funeral directors, including his son, Matt, who joined the family business in 2005 and is now Levinson’s President.

As one of the cornerstones of Levinson's commitment to helping others, Ira has served on several boards and committees in the community. He formerly served in a prominent role on the Maryland State Board of Morticians and Funeral Directors for eight years, and is currently involved in several groups to benefit those in need, such as serving on the board of Gilchrist Hospice Division of Jewish Services, Jewish Funeral Directors Association (JFDA), Kavod, and the Maryland State Funeral Directors Association (MSFDA). Ira and his wife are also members of Beth El Congregation.

Ira takes pride in the tradition that Levinson’s has established and tirelessly works to maintain it. In addition, Ira enjoys playing golf and spending time with Debbie, his wife of 44 years, and sons, Ryan and Matt, and his grandchildren, Zach and Jillian.
