Obituary

Betty Joan Prince, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026. Born November 14, 1947 in Baltimore to Morris and Maxine Goldstein, Betty lived a beautiful life that was defined by a love of family and friendship.

Growing up in the Baltimore area, she graduated from Milford Mill High School and later Towson University. She married Arthur Prince in 1969 and they welcomed their son Scott in 1971. She was married to Arthur until 1973. With a keen eye for beauty, Betty had an elegant sense of style and a love for fashion.

Creative and imaginative, she had a lifelong appreciation of culture and the arts. As a young mother, she channeled her talents into helping children discover their inner artists when she became an art teacher at The Boys Latin School.

Betty also loved gardening and nurturing plants, and left teaching to start her own floral business, owning multiple floral shops over the years. Her entrepreneurial spirit continued, when in her late 60’s, she taught herself jewelry making and started her own jewelry business. Named Lena Long in honor of her grandmother, Betty designed unique jewelry pieces and sold them at jewelry shows around Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

Betty approached life as an adventure, and handled life’s curveballs with strength, dignity, and always a sense of humor. She loved spending time with family and friends, and relished any opportunity to go the beach. She was happiest when sitting with loved ones around a table piled high with steamed Maryland blue crabs.

Later in life, she particularly cherished her role as “Grammy” to Amanda and Walker—attending school concerts, cheering on the sidelines of sporting events, and offering a listening ear for everything going on in their lives. Her pep talks were legendary, and her nurturing presence, encouragement and warmth instilled a foundation of confidence and love that they will carry with them always.

She is survived by her son, Scott Prince, of Kensington, MD, his wife, Stacy, two grandchildren Amanda and Walker, and nephews, Andrew Goldstein (Emily) and Matthew Goldstein (Cass). She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Frank Goldstein. She also leaves behind a loving circle of friends and cousins.

While Betty suffered from progressive dementia in recent years, she never lost hold of her love for family, and passed from this world on her terms. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of those who loved her.
