Born in Brooklyn, NY, on July 10, 1929, Dr. Berkowitz lived a remarkable life of service to country, community, family, and friends.

Dr. Berkowitz's life was characterized by leadership. He was Student Government President and Vice President at Stuyvesant High School in New York, NY, an Eagle Scout, and a long-time member of the Eagle Scout Board of Review. During the Korean conflict, he volunteered to serve in the U.S. Navy. He was a Teacher, Reading Specialist, Assistant Principal, Project Supervisor, one of the first middle school Principals in the United States, Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent, Adjunct Professor, and Community College Dean.

He served as President of Temple Beth El's Seniors Club and Chair of its Adult Education Committee, and he was named 2009 Man of the Year by its Men's Club.
