Edward Martin Sills

Edward Sills, of Baltimore, Maryland, passed away on October 27, 2026, at the age of 88.

A pediatric rheumatologist on the faculty at Johns Hopkins for 47 years and a dedicated teacher, Edward devoted his professional life to the health and well-being of children. He brought extraordinary warmth and diagnostic insight to the care of patients with complex illnesses, earning the affection and gratitude of patients and their families. 

Edward and his beloved wife of 63 years, Joan, shared a love of learning, travel, and art. His devotion to Joan was evident in their everyday companionship and in his steadfast presence throughout her final illness. 

He took great joy in his children and grandchildren, remembering their interests and following their pursuits with warmth and wholehearted interest. Edward approached the world with an immense appetite for reading, learning, and sharing what he discovered about history, art, music, and food. 

He is survived by his children, Marion Sills and Jonathan Sills; his daughter-in-law, Deborah Sills; his grandchildren, Elizabeth and Henry Sills, Hannah, Abigail, and Maya Sills-Feerst, his brother David Sills, sister-in-law Gail Sills, and nephews Marc and Kevin Sills. 

He was predeceased by his wife, Joan H. Sills (née Green).

Services will be held at Levinson Funeral Home, 8900 Reisterstown Road, on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Oheb Shalom Memorial Park.

Please omit flowers. Contributions in his memory may be sent to The Tell Institute, which educates middle and high school students about Jewish history, culture, and civilization, or any charity focused upon the health and well-being of children.

The family will be in mourning at Suburban Country Club, 7600 Park Heights Avenue, Pikesville, Maryland 21208, Thursday only, following interment, with shiva services there at 6:00 p.m.
