Obituary

Evelyn Smith (nee Denbin), of Baltimore, MD, passed away on Thursday, February 12th, 2026, at the age of 95. She is survived by her children, Ellen (Tim) Thompson, Andrea Smith (Andrew Sklar), and Craig Smith (Mark Zangrando); by her grandchildren, Mara (Doug) Maxfield, Jaime (Jeff) Klein, and Ethan Thompson; by her step-grandchildren, Jaime (late Stan) Rath, Erika (Mike) Pflugrath, and Joshua (Ellen) Sklar; and by her great-grandchildren, Ian Maxfield, Levi Maxfield, Noah Pflugrath, Dylan Pflugrath, Franklin Rath, Cassie Rath, and Abbott Sklar. She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard Smith, her brother and sister-in-law Leonard and Ruth Denbin, and by her parents, Zelda and Max Denbin.

Evelyn Leah Smith was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 26,1930. She married the love of her life Bernie “Reds” Smith in 1951; they were steadfast partners in life and business for more than 60 years until his passing in 2012. Evelyn took great pride in her family, raising three children, delighting in her role as Mom-Mom and Bubbe, defining the words "unconditional love".

She was a loyal friend you could trust with any secret. A steady presence of warmth, faith and gentle strength, she prepared memorable seders and holiday meals for family and friends for over 50 years. An active member and one of the founders of Woodmoor Hebrew Congregation, she was honored by their Sisterhood as a Woman of Valor. For many years, Evelyn enjoyed her Monday night mahjong games, theater outings, and socializing with close friends.

May her memory be a blessing to all who knew her — a life of love, warmth, and quiet devotion that will live on in her family and friends forever.
