Obituary

Harold “Hal” Dorin, of Cockeysville, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25th, 2026, after a day surrounded by family. He lived a full 96 years, and he was deeply loved.

Hal was born in 1930 in New York City to the late Arthur Dorin and Florence Lane. He lived a long and meaningful life filled with service and deep love for his family. Hal grew up between New York and Los Angeles. He graduated from Alexander Hamilton High School in LA and then Purdue University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. During his service as an officer in the United States Navy, Hal participated in the atomic testing program in the Pacific.

Following his discharge from the Navy, Hal met the former Doris Goldberg on a blind date. They married in 1959 at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. In 1964, they moved to Maryland, eventually settling in Rockville for 37 years. Hal worked briefly in the private sector before beginning his civilian career working as an Ocean Engineer for the United States Navy. In 2002 following retirement, Hal and Doris moved to Pikesville.

Hal is survived by Doris, his beloved wife of 67 years and his loving children, Dr. Joanna Brandt (Dr. Harry Brandt), Dr. Adam Dorin (Stella Dorin), and Paul Dorin (Dr. Michelle Dorin). He was particularly proud of his nine grandchildren, Joshua Brandt (Emily Hengemihle), Dr. Allison Brandt (Dr. Matthew Brandt), Phillip Dorin (Regina Bradley), Dr. Alex Dorin (Dr. Jaida Reeves), Dr. Emily Zimmer (Ryan Zimmer), Jake Dorin, William Dorin, Elizabeth Dorin, and Zeke Dorin as well as his eight great-grandchildren, Belle Brandt, Oscar Brandt, Phoebe Brandt, Arthur Brandt, Cyrus Dorin, Joseph Dorin, James Dorin, and Oliver Zimmer.
