Hershel Roy Pachino, affectionately known as Hersh, Dad, and Gramps, passed away at the age of 89 on Saturday, October 17, 2026. In his final days, he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren, with whom he was able to share words of love and encouragement. He leaves behind his beloved children—Marcie Pachino, Michael/ Lisa (Shear) Pachino and Richard Pachino; his daughter-in-law Paige Axelrod; his grandchildren—Brooke (Pachino) /Charlie Anderson, Kelsey Pachino, Aidan Pachino, Emerson Pachino and Lia Pachino; his great-grandchildren—Jack, Maggie and Lucy Anderson; his sister Roz Shenker; several nieces and nephews; and his granddog Ryder Pachino. He was predeceased by his parents Albert and Sylvia (Raven) Pachino and his brother Marvin Pachino.
Hersh was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He was a proud graduate of Forest Park High School, a place that nurtured friendships he has held dear for decades. After working alongside his father in the family dairyn business, Hersh went on to build a successful career in Baltimore’s restaurant industry. He served as the General Manager of the iconic Pimlico Hotel before becoming the proud owner of Hersh’s Orchard Inn and Ralphie’s Diner. After retiring, Hersh became “Mr. Nordstrom” in his job in the men’s sportswear department at Nordstrom in Columbia Mall.
Even though he never held public office, Hersh was the unofficial mayor of Baltimore. As a beloved and familiar presence throughout the community, Hersh seemed to know everyone, and everyone knew Hersh. Over the past year and a half, his community expanded to include a new set of friends at Springwell’s Independent Living complex.
The Pachino family would like to thank the caring ICU nurses at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, Dr. Gaurang Garg, and Dr. Bonnie Gerecke.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 19, 2026 at 12 p.m. at Sol Levinson Funeral Home (8900 Reisterstown Rd., Pikesville, MD), followed by a service at Beth Tfiloh Cemetery (5800 Windsor Mill Rd., Woodlawn, MD). Shiva will be observed at 11008 Valley Heights Drive, Owings Mills, MD, after interment with a service at 7pm and Tuesday, from 1pm - 5pm with a service at 7pm.
