Obituary

Janet Beryl Rafky (nee Libshutz) was born on December 25, 1941 in Baltimore, MD and passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on January 17, 2026. Janet is preceded in death by her first husband of 17 years, Charles Samuel Rafky, her second husband of 15 years, Robert Mallonee, and her beloved parents Irving Libshutz and Bessie (Kadis) Libshutz.

She is survived by her children, Anne Marie Domacasse and Louis Michael Rafky, her son-in-law Rodolfo Domacasse and daughter-in-law Kathleen McSweeney, her beloved grandchildren David, Noah and Benjamin Rafky and Carlos Domacasse, her brother, Alan Libshutz and her sister-in-law, Joan Libshutz, and her niece, Allison and Jeffrey Rosier and nephew, Jeffrey and Jill Libshutz.

Janet attended the University of Maryland where she earned a BA and Master's Degree in Social Work. She was outgoing and extremely personable, and met adversity throughout her life with grit and determination. The death of her first husband had left her with two children to raise, which she did with the support of her beloved parents. Janet was an accomplished professional, having worked her way from hospital volunteer, to social worker, to department head, to Executive, ending her career as Vice-President for Development and Community Affairs at Franklin Square Hospital.

Janet also spent a few years as the Executive Director of the National Blood Foundation, and a Board Member and Chair of the Eastern Baltimore Chamber of Commerce, where she championed such initiatives as a thriving business partnership with the community and Franklin Square Hospital, was a vocal supporter of infrastructure projects to stimulate the economy in eastern Baltimore County, and was a prominent spokesperson for public health initiatives like a tobacco-free hospital. She was proud of her efforts to fund and build the Patient Care Tower at Franklin Square, creating local jobs and increasing health care access for the local community.

She enjoyed her final years as an active member of the Sunrise Assisted Living Community in Pikesville where she had many friends and served as the "welcoming committee" for new Sunrise residents. Janet enjoyed her unofficial role as social director for the community, leading daily current events, jeopardy, and exercise classes.

Janet Rafky lived a full, rich life that leaves a lasting impact on her family, friends, and every person and community she encountered. She will be forever loved and missed by all who knew her.
