Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce Winakur (nee Chiat), who left us on Wednesday, December 31st, 2025, at the age of 85. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, known for her unwavering love and devotion to her family and friends.

Joyce met her beloved husband, Stanley Winakur, through Iris, Stanley's sister, and they were married on October 26, 1961. Their marriage was a testament to love and partnership that stood the test of time until Stanley's passing.

In her early years, Joyce enjoyed bowling and later found great joy in playing Canasta and other card games on Tuesdays at The Towers and Thursdays at Suburban Country Club. Wednesday and Saturday nights were cherished moments spent with friends participating in Dinner and Dice at The Towers.

A passionate community member, Joyce was actively involved in the PTA when her children were in school and was a proud member of the Beth Israel Sisterhood.

Joyce was survived by her loving daughters, Laurie (Steven) Westcott, Wendy Winakur (Ron) Tull, and Stacey (Matthew) Horn; adoring grandchildren, Jackson (Jordan) Miller, Alyson Miller, Jacob Westcott, Andrea (Dewight) Bacon, Joshua Westcott, and Sam Horn; precious great-grandchildren, Piper Miller, Ryan Miller, Damien Bacon, and Denver Bacon; and caring in-laws, Iris (Bernie) Berger. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Stanley Winakur; loving siblings, Lee (Surviving spouse, Nancy) Chiat, Sheila (William) Cohen; caring in-laws, Jack (Fay) Winakur; and devoted parents, Florence and Alexander Chiat.

Family and friends meant everything to Joyce. She never missed a birthday or anniversary, always sending cards to stay connected with loved ones. Joyce will be remembered for her love and dedication to her family, her steadfast friendship, and her generosity toward charitable organizations. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her greatest treasures, and she cherished her son-in-laws as if they were her own sons.
Services will be held at Sol Levinson's Chapel, 8900 Reisterstown Road, Pikesville, MD 21208, on Sunday, January 4th, 2026, at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at United Hebrew Cemetery. The family requests that flowers be omitted, and contributions in her memory may be sent to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, P.O. Box 22324, New York, NY 10087. The family will be in mourning at 3011 Fallstaff Road, Unit #204, Baltimore, Maryland 21209, on Sunday following the interment until 8pm with a service at 7pm, on Monday 11am until 3pm and continuing from 5pm until 8pm with a service at 7pm, and on Tuesday from 11am until 3pm.

Joyce's warm spirit and kind heart will be missed but will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
