Obituary
Lois Mainen Weinberg, daughter of the late Robert and Bertha Mainen, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2026, at the age of 93. Born in Baltimore in 1933, Loie was the beloved mother of Kenneth Weinberg, Leonard Weinberg II (Lindley), and Jan Weinberg Wood (Kyle). She was the cherished grandmother/Nannie of Oliver Weinberg (Gabrielle Lessans), Lucie Weinberg Murray (Brett), Nicholas Weinberg (Rhiannon Parker), Alison Wood, Christopher Wood, and Benjamin Wood. She was the proud great grandmother of Asher Weinberg, Isaac Weinberg, Noa Weinberg, Cooper Murray, and Tucker Murray.
Loie attended Forest Park High School and the University of Maryland College Park. Her first job was working as a nursery school teacher at Har Sinai. It was there she met the love of her life Bob Weinberg who happened to be the father of her sweet student Kenny. A voracious reader, she later volunteered and then worked as a librarian at the Baltimore County Public Library at the Woodlawn and Pikesville branches, where she started and ran a program called “Let’s Talk About Books". A mother and grandmother at The Park School, Loie was one of the women who started its thrift shop as a fundraiser to support school scholarships and programs. She was very active in the The Suburban Club of Baltimore County, leading its 18-hole women’s group for several years and serving on its Board of Directors as Membership Chair. She loved playing Bridge with her friends at Suburban and was disappointed when Covid kept everyone home. But most of all Loie loved enjoying the company of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends, especially her friend Michael Parker who visited her every week. For many years she was lovingly cared for by Norma Villacorta, Collette Snyder, Komiko Davis and Rossana Tellechea, her caregivers and dear friends, along with her friends Michelle Sartori, Tracy Workman and Sherrie Keller. We are forever grateful for their love and devotion to Loie.
A private memorial service will be held at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Robert L. Weinberg Visiting Journalist Fund at The Park School Development Office, 2425 Old Court Road, Baltimore, Maryland 21208 or at www.parkschool.net/giving.
