Obituary

Louis Howard Sakin, 82, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, surrounded by family. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Louis lived a life defined by service, intellect, and kindness.

A lifelong learner with a deep sense of curiosity, Louis earned his J.D. from the University of Baltimore, where he was a proud member of the Nu Beta Epsilon Law Fraternity. His career began in state law enforcement administration, where he dedicated himself to justice and rehabilitation. Among his many professional achievements, he was especially proud to have founded Threshold, a halfway house for women released from prison—an enduring reflection of his compassion and belief in second chances.

After moving with his family to Massachusetts, Louis continued his public service in the state’s criminal history division. Never one to limit his impact, he also helped found the Framingham Education Foundation, fostering educational opportunities in his community. Deeply committed to Jewish life and family connection, Louis was an active member and leader in the Jewish Family Workshop.

In later years, Louis continued to find meaningful ways to serve—working as a Weights and Measures Inspector and leading within ALDA (Association for Late Deafened Adults), where his empathy and humor enriched the lives of many.
Outside of work and service, Louis loved reading, playing cards, and listening to classical music. He will be remembered for his warm conversations, sharp wit, and endless intellectual curiosity—qualities that made everyone around him feel both seen and inspired.

Louis is survived by his devoted wife Linda, his loving son Gary and daughter-in-law Erika, two cherished grandchildren, and his sister Deborah.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to PBS, the Framingham Public Library, or ALDA—organizations that reflect his love of learning, community, and connection.
