Obituary
Neil Scott, of Brooklyn, New York, and a recent transplant to Baltimore, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the age of 78. He is survived by his beloved wife, Brenda Scott; his brother, Martin Scott; his nephew, Jason Scott; and his cousins, Nelson and Jody Rothbaum. He was predeceased by his parents, Alan and Shirley Scott.
A proud New Yorker through and through, Neil was born and raised in Brooklyn and carried that identity with him every day of his life. He dedicated more than 30 years of service to the justice system of New York as a New York City Police and Corrections Officer, a career marked by integrity, resilience, and deep compassion for others. Never one to turn away from someone in need, Neil was known for offering help freely—whether to a hungry stranger, a neighbor, or anyone simply needing a hand. His generosity of spirit left a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.
A lifelong Mets fan, Neil found joy where his passions intersected, working part-time for over 15 years at Shea Stadium, placing him close to the game and the city he loved. Beyond sports, Neil was an avid American history enthusiast with an impressive personal library, always eager to learn, discuss, and reflect on the stories that shaped the nation.
Neil loved fishing—whether alone or in good company—casting lines at local fishing holes or in the open waters of the Caribbean, where time seemed to slow and peace came easily. Music was another constant companion, especially 1960s rock and roll, with a particular love for The Rolling Stones, whose songs often filled his memories.
An artist at heart, Neil captured the world around him through thoughtful sketches and drawings, expressing what words sometimes could not. Together for more than 54 years, his wife Brenda fondly remembers their many travel adventures and the countless special moments they shared over a lifetime of love and partnership.
Neil will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. His kindness, curiosity, creativity, and unwavering generosity will live on in the memories of those he touched. May his memory be a blessing, always.
