Obituary
January 25, 1944 – July 23, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Michael Bachman, of Selbyville, Delaware, on July 23, 2026, at the age of 82.
Born on January 25, 1944, Paul lived a remarkable life characterized by service, innovation, curiosity, and an unwavering devotion to his family. He was a man of exceptional intellect, integrity, and determination whose warmth, wisdom, and generosity touched all who knew him.
Paul proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal in 1965. His military service reflected the values that guided him throughout his life—dedication, discipline, and a commitment to excellence. A lifelong learner with an extraordinary mind, Paul attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He went on to become an accomplished inventor, innovator, and developer, earning the respect of colleagues, friends, and family alike through his creativity, vision, and ability to solve complex problems. He was endlessly curious and always eager to explore new ideas, technologies, and possibilities.
Paul's passion for exploration extended well beyond his professional pursuits. He loved traveling and embraced every opportunity to see the world. Over his lifetime, he visited nearly every state in the United States and traveled to countless countries including Antarctica. His adventurous spirit and desire to experience the wonders of the world firsthand.
When he wasn't traveling or developing new ideas, Paul was an avid reader who never lost his thirst for knowledge. He loved testing his intellect with Jeopardy!, a favorite daily ritual, and was a devoted fan of The Big Bang Theory, a show whose wit and humor perfectly matched his own interests and personality.
Above all else, Paul was devoted to his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan Carol Bachman, who passed away in October 1992, and by his cherished son, Jeffrey David Bachman, who passed away in 1990. Though these losses were among life's greatest sorrows, Paul carried their memory in his heart every day.
Paul is survived by his loving wife, Arlene Jill Bachman, of 32 years whose companionship brought him happiness, comfort, and love. He is also survived by his son, Marc Steven Bachman, and Marc's husband, Jason Pachios.
He is further survived by his brother-in-law, Arnold Eppel, and Arnold's wife, Robyn Eppel, along with their children, Rachael, Jordan, Kara, and their respective spouses, Sam, Lai, Roey, and all their children. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Marilyn Zunikoff, and her husband, Kenneth Levine, and their children, Daniel, Shelby, Lane, Lindsay, and their respective spouses, Lauren, Anthony, David, Adam, and their children. Paul cherished his extended family and took pride in the accomplishments and happiness of every generation.
Those who knew Paul will remember a man of intelligence, humor, and limitless curiosity. Whether sharing stories from his travels, discussing an invention, solving a Jeopardy! clues before the contestants, or spending meaningful time with loved ones, he made every moment richer for those around him.
Paul's legacy lives on in the family he loved, the lives he touched, and the innovative spirit he embodied. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
