Obituary

Rita Ruth Weingold (nee Sabo), of Baltimore, Maryland, passed away on May 30 , 2026, two days shy of her 96th birthday. She is survived by her caring children, Carol (Jonathan) Zenilman, and Philip (Jane) Weingold; loving grandchildren, Avi Zenilman (Noreen Malone), Aliza Zenilman (Daniel Stone), Eva Zenilman (Matt Lustbader), and Elizabeth Weingold (Jacob Kornman); adoring great grandchildren, Malachy, Xavier, Maurice, Alora, and Mira; and also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Maurice Weingold, brother, David Sabo, and parents, Fannie and Hyman Sabo.

Rita was the gentle, beating heart of her family, happiest when surrounded by loved ones. She was a devoted and loving great grandma (Gagi Rita), grandmother, mother, aunt, and friend, preternaturally kind, firm in spirit, and committed to a welcoming open door or open chair. Rita took great pride in hosting celebrations, from family dinners to Passover Seders. She filled photo albums with pictures of her beautiful spreads or many, many, many birthday cakes. With amazing creativity, a sharp design eye and a clear mind that understood how to make space for family and visitors, she was a talented artist and seamstress, able to fix, mend, and care for anyone in need.  A true matriarch, she will be missed dearly by everyone who was lucky enough to have met her. May her memory be a blessing forever.

There will be a private gravesite service in New York. Services are private. Please omit flowers. Contributions in her memory may be sent to Gilchrist Hospice (Gilchristcare.org), Congregation Beth Am (bethambaltimore.org), Central Synagogue of NYC (www.centralsynagogue.org) or  Dorrie's Dream Fund, which supports the OrchKids Baltimore Symphony program ( orchkids.org/donate.) The family will be in mourning at 5702 Cross Country Blvd, Baltimore, MD 21209, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday beginning at 5:30pm with services at 6:30pm.
