Obituary
Robert Harold Caplan passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, at the age of 83, after a long and courageous journey with heart and kidney disease.
Bob was born on February 1, 1943, to Milton & Norma Caplan (nee Auerbach) and was raised in Baltimore, MD. He had a sister, Edith R. Caplan, who tragically & rapidly died of polio within 24 hours -- in his very young presence -- when she was 12 and he was only 8-years-old. He attended Baltimore City College High School and later served in the U.S. National Guard. He studied at the University of Maryland, College Park, and the University of Baltimore, earning a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.
Bob then met the love of his life, Eileen, and they married in 1966, beginning a partnership that would span six decades. Together, they built a loving home and raised two daughters, Shelley (Mevorah) and Jill (Silverman). To his family, Bob was the steady center—the person everyone turned to in difficult moments. With strength, wisdom, and unwavering devotion, he offered comfort, protection, and clarity whenever life became uncertain.
Initially, Bob was a Special Agent for the IRS in Washington D.C. and began studying Law; however, the commute became too cumbersome and he then chose to become an Accountant. Ever entrepreneurial, Bob later founded an executive recruiting firm, Caplan Associates. In the 1980s, he also owned several successful racehorses that ran at Pimlico, another passion that brought him great excitement and pride. For decades, he faithfully played poker & pitch each week, relishing the camaraderie and competition. He was also a lifelong devoted dog lover and always appreciated a wonderful meal at his favorite local restaurant(s) shared with family or friends.
Bob combined his sharp acuity for numbers with a lifelong love of baseball. He prepared tax returns for several members of the Baltimore Orioles, forming friendships along the way and delighting in the rare opportunity to merge his profession with his favorite sport.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Eileen Caplan (nee Kessler) ; his devoted daughters, Shelley Mevorah and Jill Silverman; his loving son-in-law, Jeffrey Silverman; and four adored grandchildren, who were his prides and joys: David, Aidan & Phoebe Silverman and Max Mevorah.
Services will be held at Sol Levinson & Bros, 8900 Reisterstown Road, Pikesville, MD 21208 at Noon on Thursday March 26, 2026. The family will be in mourning at the Caplan Residence in Stevenson Commons, 8002 Brynmor Ct #402 Pikesville, MD 21208 on Thursday 2-8pm with a 5pm Service & on Friday 11-7pm with a 5 pm service.
Bob's immediate family chose to donate his body to medical research due to the rapid progression of his illness, embracing the Jewish value of Tikkun Olam, in the hope that others might be spared a similar experience.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bob’s memory to Gilchrist Hospice or the charity of your choice.
To his family, Bob was more than a husband, father, and grandfather—he was their safe harbor. His love, guidance, and steady presence shaped their lives in immeasurable ways, and that legacy will live on in them forever.
