Graduated from Annapolis Grammar school in 1944 then High school in grade 11 in 1948. While in high school, Shirley won awards for her work as featured editor of the high school paper. After receiving advanced office training, worked for state controller’s office, then went to the admissions and physical education departments. Shirley loved attending Army /Navy football games. Joined Beta Sigma Phi Sorority as president and honored as woman of the year. She was very close to her late brother Jerry and deeply affected when he left to serve in WW2.

Bubbie Shirl was blessed to have been married to our beloved father Morty for 56 years. They met on a blind date, then after marrying on June 23,1957, moved to Baltimore. Her heart was always linked to Annapolis; her new Jewish home became Beth El Synagogue. She could never believe that a small-town girl could make so may friends. She thrived on being involved, active in Jewish culture, community, and family events. Her history included volunteering with elementary and middle school PTA, 20 years Covenant Guild, Hadassah, Beth El services, and the Pikesville Senior Center. She was honored with the Henrietta Szold Award “What Hadassah means to me.” Her hobbies were square dancing, bowling, the Orioles, traveling (loved Israel and cruises), mahjong and reading. Never forgot a special holiday or birthday with a card or phone call. She was also blessed to have a bonus companion, Jerry Brickman for nearly 10 years. We wanted to thank the terrific homecare and inpatient care given by Gilcrest Center.

We would also like to thank Robert Slatkin, who started out as Bubbies’ personal driver, but became her 3rd special friend in her life, she loved beyond words.
